Sustainability at home

KEC continues the "Stewardship begins at home" series, offering actionable ways to support a healthy ecosystem in your own backyard. On March 15, a full agenda features a variety of speakers with a focus on sustainability, including the following topics:


  • Jessee Adams and Grace Personeus from the Kitsap Conservation District  will share how they work with private landowners to empower them to conserve natural resources by providing technical assistance, grants, and educational opportunities. Find out about program offerings with a special focus on native plants, and the Backyard Habitat and Rain Garden Programs.
  • Caitlyn Newman, from the Kitsap Public Works Solid Waste Department will explore what happens to your waste after it leaves your home, how Kitsap County and Washington State are working to reduce waste, and practical tips to reduce waste in your daily life.
  • Artist Steve Portteus will speak to his multi-media creations that depict the landscapes, seascapes, and details of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
